La Floridiana

This is a beautiful villa overlooking the sea, with charming majolica-tiled floors and a family style atmosphere; it is close to Capri’s most famous attractions.

Our History

Our history starts at the beginning of the last century when Antonio Esposito returned to Capri after working at the Villa Floridiana, a villa with a public park in the renowned Vomero district of Naples. He put his passion for plants into practice, becoming the gardener of Baroness Gudrun von Uexküll’s Villa Discopoli. In exchange for his services, the baroness gave him a small house beside the Villa, which Antonio renamed La Floridiana.

Mindful of his experience in Naples, Antonio set up a nursery and florist business, which soon became very successful. He was a simple and reserved man, and accumulated his wealth for his large family. Between 1908 and 1923, he and his wife Virginia had three sons Luigi, Mario, and Antonio, and four daughters Teresa, Maria, Virginia, and Venere.

In 1924, Gudrum Uexküll sold him the house for a small sum, thanks to the intercession of Axel Munthe, who characterized him to the baroness as a humble farmer, although he was already a wealthy man. Over the years, his second son, Mario, gradually expanded Villa Floridiana, transforming it into a hotel and inextricably linking the history of the gardener Antonio Esposito to the history of Capri.

Mario was a particularly talented hotelier, and was a forerunner in bringing groups of vacationers to Capri from across Europe, personally going to travel agencies in many countries to advertise La Floridiana and the island itself. In the 1960s, the President of the Italian Republic, Giovanni Leone, awarded him with the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro for his contribution to the development of the Italian tourism industry. Mario’s wife Michela was crucial to the hotel’s growth. Her passion for cooking allowed guests of La Floridiana from all over the world savor the delicacies of Capri. Today, their descendants continue in their footsteps.

Nowadays, Villa La Floridiana is a beautiful hotel with charming tiled floors; it overlooks the sea and is surrounded by the tranquility of the pedestrian area in which it is located. With its 36 spacious and bright suites, it welcomes travelers and families from all over the world.

Hotel La Floridiana offers family-style hospitality, attention to detail and to the needs of both adults and children, a swimming pool with snack bar. All this, including a sun terrace overlooking the sea, a delightful breakfast, and its unique location near Capri’s most famous attractions, make this the ideal location for relaxation in the mood of Capri.

"La Bella Vita"

We may be jaded by our love of Italy (more than 20 visits), but La Floridiana may be our favorite hotel on earth, and we are seasoned travelers (more than fifty countries, six continents). From our first stay at this hotel for our honeymoon a decade ago, we have kept coming back. To date we have stayed in a suite, a junior suite, and a standard room, and all are fabulous. Just make sure you book a room with sea view, because it is spectacular. We've even brought friends to stay here on several occasions. From the quiet out-of-the way setting, to the immaculate pool, to the extraordinarily competent and friendly staff (special kudos to Amith, who went out of his to make our stay perfect), La Floridiana will exceed your every expectation.  dayhahaha McAllen, Tripadvisor, 14/05/2014

"Location was exceptional"

The staff from check in to check out went out of their way to make your stay the best. Location was exceptional to see all that you want on Capri. We could not believe how quiet it was in the evening. Great for good nights rest. Take advantage of porter service to take luggage to hotel from ferry and back to ferry from hotel. It is worth every Euro.  Horace,,

“Lovely hotel in Capri”

We stayed for 6 nights. It is really easy to get to from the funicular. The room we had was comfortable, clean and had good views. The breakfast is lovely, we had a few evening meals and they were very good too (best chef in Capri). The staff were very nice and they give you lots of information on how to make the best of your stay. We hope to return as Capri is a piece of paradise and we still have bits to see! Special thanks to all the staff but particularly the reception staff, who were very welcoming and informative.   Vicky M, Tripadvisor,
